Efficient Solar Heating for Industrial Applications: 600m² Flat Plate Collector Project at Duijue Lead Mine, Tibet

One standout example is the recent project at Duijue Lead Mine, where a large-scale flat plate solar collector system was deployed to meet the heating needs of a 600 square meter area.

Project Overview

Why Flat Plate Solar Collectors?

Flat plate solar collectors are particularly well-suited for high-altitude, high-radiation environments like Tibet. Their robust design, ease of installation, and low maintenance requirements make them ideal for industrial use in remote locations.

In this project, the collectors were mounted at optimal tilt angles to maximize absorption of solar radiation throughout the winter months. The solar heating system is used to maintain indoor temperatures in operational and staff buildings, ensuring comfort and safety even during harsh weather conditions.

System Performance

The solar-powered heating system has significantly reduced dependence on diesel or coal, which are expensive and logistically challenging to transport in this region. On average, the system supplies over 70% of daily heating needs purely through solar energy.

It’s a textbook case of how a solar heating system can not only reduce operating costs but also align industrial operations with low-carbon development goals.

Challenges in Remote Industrial Heating

Duijue’s remote location presented multiple challenges: difficult access, limited grid power, and extreme cold. However, the modularity of the flat plate solar collector design enabled on-site assembly without heavy equipment. The project also incorporated smart controls and insulated piping to minimize thermal loss.
